Tiles Laying & Maintenance Guide

Achieving a flawless, enduring installation requires proper surface preparation, high-grade polymer adhesives, mechanical leveling systems, and disciplined care routines.

Precision Engineering

Step-by-Step Installation Procedure

Step 01

Surface & Substrate Prep

The base must be fully cured, flat, clean, and free of dust, grease, or moisture. Any unevenness exceeding 2 mm over a 2-meter span must be leveled using a self-leveling screed before adhesive application.

Step 02

Adhesive Application

Use a Type C2TE/S1 polymer-modified tile adhesive. Apply adhesive using a notched trowel in straight parallel ridges. For large format porcelain slabs (600x1200 mm and above), back-butter the tile to guarantee 100% bed coverage.

Step 03

Leveling & Joint Spacers

Never lay tiles with zero joints. Maintain a minimum expansion gap of 2 mm to 3 mm using cross spacers. Employ a wedge leveling system to eliminate lippage between adjacent tiles, tapping gently with a rubber mallet.

Step 04

Grouting & Curing

Allow adhesive to cure undisturbed for 24 hours before grouting. Fill joints using high-performance epoxy or polymer grout. Clean off haze within 30 minutes using a damp sponge and clean water.

Strict Rule: Back Arrow Orientation

Before fixing, check the directional arrows embossed on the back of each tile. Ensure all tiles are aligned in the same directional orientation unless installing continuous vein Book-Match or Marbleous patterns according to box numbering.

Installation Dos & Don'ts

Best Installation Practices

  • Dry-Lay First: Lay out 3 to 4 boxes dry across the floor to evaluate shade variations, grain flow, and cutting plans before applying adhesive.
  • Check Batch & Tone: Verify that the shade/batch number printed on every carton is identical across the entire batch.
  • Back Buttering: Spread a thin 1–2 mm layer of adhesive on the back of porcelain tiles larger than 60x60 cm.
  • Perimeter Expansion Joints: Leave a 5–8 mm perimeter buffer along walls to accommodate structural movement and temperature changes.
  • Proper Cutters: Use wet diamond saw cutters for porcelain and vitrified tiles to avoid chipped edges and fractures.
✕ Prohibited

Practices to Strictly Avoid

  • No Pure Cement Mortar: Do not use pure grey cement/sand mortar beds for vitrified porcelain tiles; their low water absorption requires polymer adhesives.
  • No Zero Joint Laying: Never butt tiles directly together without spacers. Thermal expansion causes pop-ups and edge cracking.
  • No Heavy Iron Hammers: Never strike tiles with iron hammers or steel rods; use only white or neutral-colored rubber mallets.
  • No Immediate Foot Traffic: Do not walk or place loads on freshly laid tiles for at least 24 to 48 hours.
  • No Metal Scrapers: Never use steel wool or metal blades to remove dry grout haze, as they can scratch polished surfaces.
Long-term Maintenance

Surface Care & Cleaning Routines

Post-Installation Wash

Within 48 hours after grouting, remove cement or epoxy haze using a diluted acid-free grout cleaner and a microfiber cloth. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.

Daily Routine Care

Sweep or vacuum regularly to clear sand and abrasive particles. Mop with clean warm water and a neutral pH floor cleaner. Avoid harsh wax, oil-based soaps, or bleach.

Stain Management

Wipe tea, coffee, grease, and ink spills immediately. For stubborn oil or grease spots, use an alkaline detergent; for mineral scales or water marks, use a mild sulfamic acid cleaner.

Surface Protection

Equip chair legs and heavy furniture with felt or rubber pads. Place dirt-trapping mats at all exterior entryways to minimize foot-traffic abrasion on glossy porcelain.
